The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) began issuing the renowned ENERGY STAR certification to industrial units that fulfill their environmental health and efficiency standards in 2006. By 2021, all of Honda's manufacturing vehicle facilities in the United States would have qualified for the EPA's energy-efficient designation. For the second year in a row, eight separate plants have gone above and above to exceed environmental criteria, and they have no plans to stop.

Marysville Auto Plant and East Liberty Auto Plant, Ohio

Honda began manufacturing vehicles in America when it opened the Marysville Auto Plant for production in 1982. For the last 16 years, both the Marysville and East Liberty Auto Plants in Ohio have been awarded the ENERGY STAR certification by the EPA. But what about the other six plants?

Green Factory Initiatives

Honda factories in the United States and Canada have been showered with ENERGY STAR awards since they were first handed out by the EPA over a decade ago. However, in recent years, Honda’s Green Factory programs have developed comprehensive strategies and manufacturing techniques to further reduce their environmental impact while still creating a highly-dependable car on the road. Our other award-winning plants in 2021 include Anna Engine Auto Plant in Ohio (4th total award), Indiana Auto Plant (10th consecutive award), Alabama Auto Plant (5th award), Alabama Engine Plant (3rd award), Honda Transmission Plant in Ohio (3rd award), and the Honda Transmission Plant in Georgia (2nd award).

Honda’s evolving methods have successfully reduced the amount of water, energy, waste, and emissions that Honda is responsible for during manufacturing. We have more hybrid options available and multiple body styles that consistently receive over 30 mpg*. In addition, manufacturers aim to reduce CO2 emissions and landfill waste as they research developing plants fueled by renewable wind and solar power.
