Honda Developing Odyssey Hybrid for Japan
Honda has recently confirmed that they have plans to release a hybrid version of their Japanese-market Odyssey minivan with predictions of fuel efficiencies that rival hybrid sedans.
While there has yet to be a confirmation of a hybrid Odyssey coming stateside to a Mid-Michigan Honda Dealer near you, you can rest assured that we have our ears to the ground on this one. In the meantime, let’s take a look at what’s coming for the new hybrid in Japan.
Greatly Reduced Fuel Consumption
Takashi Shinchi, assistant large product leader in the powertrain division said that while everything is still in the early stages, a fuel consumption reduction of as great as “50 percent” appears to be possible. Shinchi was unable to confirm whether there is a set timeframe for the hybrid minivan, however.
The American Odyssey
While the hybrid Odyssey is underway in Japan, the 2014 Honda Odyssey is available now in American markets like ours here in Mid-Michigan. We might not have any news on when or if the Odyssey hybrid will make it over the Pacific, but we think that some of the amenities being offered these days on the current Honda lineup certainly make up for it.
The 2014 Odyssey, for instance, is already blazing trails in the minivan market. Did you know that it’s the first minivan to ever offer a built-in vacuum cleaner? We thought that would be a pretty obvious idea for a family vehicle, but the HondaVac is the first of its kind, available on the Honda Odyssey Touring Elite trim level.
Another great update to the Odyssey has been in the realm of safety. The 2014 Odyssey is the only vehicle in its class to earn a Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, making it a great clean choice for a new family vehicle.
Stay Tuned for More
We want a hybrid minivan option for area drivers just as much as you do, so be confident that we will do everything we can to keep you updated on this innovation.
In the meantime, why not visit a Mid-Michigan Honda Dealer and take a test drive of the 2014 Honda Odyssey. We think you’ll like what you see.
